Become a Mentor

At the Big Bro Joe Foundation, mentorship is more than volunteering — it’s an opportunity to make a lasting difference in the life of a young person.

Our mentors help guide youth toward confidence, leadership, responsibility, and personal growth through structured programs, workshops, and community involvement.

If you believe in helping young people reach their potential, we invite you to apply to become a mentor.

Our Mentorship Programs

We offer two structured mentorship programs designed to empower youth in our community.

Big Bro Academy

Focused on mentoring young men, this program helps participants build strong character, leadership skills, discipline, and confidence.

Mentors guide young men through:

  • Leadership development

  • Personal responsibility

  • Life skills workshops

  • Positive decision making

  • Community involvement

Big Sis Academy

Designed to support and empower young women, the Big Sis Academy focuses on confidence, leadership, and personal development in a supportive environment.

Mentors help young women develop:

  • Self-confidence

  • Leadership abilities

  • Healthy communication

  • Goal setting

  • Personal growth skills

Mentor Commitment

Mentorship requires consistency and dedication. Our program asks mentors to commit to:

  • Two Saturdays per month

  • 3–4 hour mentoring sessions

  • Participation in youth workshops and program activities

  • Serving as a positive role model for youth

Building trust with youth requires consistent support, guidance, and encouragement.

What Makes a Great Mentor?

We are looking for individuals who:

  • Care about helping young people succeed

  • Demonstrate leadership and integrity

  • Show patience, empathy, and consistency

  • Are willing to invest time in youth development

  • Believe in strengthening our community

You do not need prior mentoring experience — just a willingness to lead, guide, and encourage.

Mentor Screening Process

To ensure the safety and well-being of the youth we serve, all mentors must complete the following steps:

  1. Complete the Mentor Application Form

  2. Pass a Washington State WATCH Background Check

  3. Agree to the Youth Protection and Mandatory Reporting Policies

  4. Participate in the mentor onboarding process

These safeguards help us maintain a safe and supportive environment for every participant.
